Since many people use the holidays to eat, drink, be merry and do no exercise many people end up gaining weight. Having been in the fitness industry for many years I can tell you that the overwhelming thought process is to let oneself slip into a slouch instead of still using the opportunity they have to make progress in their fitness programs. Usually most people actually have more time during the holiday season to exercise not less because typically you have the day off or business may be slower, I encourage all to use your time wisely and to PLAN AHEAD. The biggest reason for why people gain weight during the holiday season is because they fail to plan ahead for success. Go out for an early morning run before dinner, or if you are traveling have a trainer come up with an exercise program that you can take with you. There is no good reason to slow down your exercise program during the holiday season only to adjust it to make it fit into your schedule. Good Evening All,
It is once again the fall and time to get yourself into gear for the upcoming winter months and holiday season. It is so easy year in and out to just let ourselves get into a rut and stay there for the entire winter. Why not try to take the opportunity to do something creative this winter with your fitness, like learn how to ski, join an indoor boot camp, or create goals for yourself for the spring or summer and use the winter months to achieve them. It is important especially heading into the holiday season that you commit yourself to some kind of routine. If you have a hard time holding yourself accountable for your fitness or health, why not hire a fitness professional to help you out, that way you can make great strides in your health and fitness and you will find yourself motivated to accomplish other things.

I’ve just spent the last three days and countless hours in a fitness conference here in Long Beach. Although it was mainly for Fitness Professionals some of the overall lessons I learned can also serve my clients well. I heard stories from various trainers who have clients who really push themselves very hard to be the very best that they could be. I don’t say this to say that my personal clients train hard because they do, I say this because I want to encourage all of you out there to be your very, very best that you could be. You as the client, and I as the fitness professional both are accountable to each other to do what we can to get you to your goal. I entreat you to put as much as you can into your exercise program, nutrition, and lifestyle so you can reap the full benefits of the fitness program that we are both embarking on. REMEMBER, you should continually challenge yourself to do more and more to increase your fitness levels, and if you have questions of how to do that you should ask your local fitness professional.

Millions and Millions of Americans suffer from lower back pain, some people suffer because of chronic issues that they can’t control, but some suffer lower back pain and can actually do something about it. This post is referring to those who have some ability to help ease their lower back pain. There are many problems that can cause back pain including hip issues, tightness in certain muscle groups, and maybe nerve damage. Most people spend most of their time in the fetal position, just think sitting in the car, sitting at your desk, sitting at the table for dinner, sleeping in the fetus position. We never actually stand straight up! Excessive sitting can cause over tight hip flexors, put stress on hips, lower back extensor muscles and can make your body’s muscles adapt to the length and tension relationship that comes with sitting in a chair, consequently making parts of your body tight, and weak. If you have an occupation where you sit a lot you should stand up every 30 mins and stretch focusing on your hips and quads. Also you may try to recline your chair in your car just greater than 90 degrees which will help take some pressure of your lower back and hips.

I did want to follow up on some of the things I wrote about on the last blog with a few suggestions on how you can prepare to be consistent. Many of us especially now in these busy days work a lot, but most of us have a day off every week. We should use some of this time to put some thought into how we will prepare ourselves for the upcoming week. If you have a problem with eating breakfast on a daily basis maybe when you go food shopping it would be wise for you to purchase some instant oatmeal, cereal that you can eat at your desk and also some snacks for your desk, bag, or whatever you have around you at work. Usually the biggest problem with my clients diets are that they don’t eat enough. Well you can overcome that hurdle by bringing healthy things to snack on during the day in between lunch and dinner and breakfast and lunch. Never let yourself get to the point during the day when you are absolutely famished because you are more than likely to go and eat anything just to satisfy your hunger. Not just that you are doing more harm to your body then good by waiting so long to eat your meal. By applying these suggestions and remaining consistent at your exercise routine not only will you feel better, but you can make yourself an exercise success.

In many situations when people are trying to get back into shape and right the ship of their lives there are problems. However one of the biggest problems that we encounter on our road to success is ourselves. We live in self doubt, we put ourselves in situations that don’t breed success. For instance, if you are on a diet why would you not pack a healthy lunch from home knowing that the only places to eat near your job are unhealthy? It’s like trying to not get wet in a rain storm without an umbrella, it’s not going to happen. If you are trying to get yourself healthy position yourself for success, pack a lunch, pack a snack, walk the stairs instead of the elevator. The only way you will get the result you truly want is to PREPARE, PREPARE, PREPARE. You have to prepare for your day both physically and mentally. You have to be determined to stick to your guns and not be caught in a situation that will compromise your fitness plan, but the only way to do that is advanced preparation. Don’t trip yourself up on the road to good health; be your best ally.

Let us consider why “cheat” days are a good thing. For those of you who are on diets or eat healthy it is vital that you give yourself a chance to reward yourself for good work. As humans we all need to feel rewarded for things that we accomplish. For many people it is very hard to stay on a healthy diet for extended periods of time. Some of us have more will power than others, but we all have “cravings” in order to best control these “cravings”, it may be advantageous to have a cheat in which you eat the things that normally or the other 6 days of the week you wouldn’t eat. The key though is to go immediately back to the way you were eating previous to your “cheat” day. Statistically dieters who have a “cheat” day have better success with their diets for longer than those who do not. So you make the call, to “cheat” or not to “cheat” that is the question

Summer time is a great time to get into shape. I know that it’s been raining here a lot recently, but nevertheless with the sun shining and the temperature warm you may be able to burn more calories and sweat more doing outside activities. Since most of us increase our activity levels during the summer it is a golden opportunity for us to get into a great fitness routine. Why wait until September when you can start now. If you take advantage of the times when you have the most energy then you will find it easy to stay consistent and see great results.
